Obituary

Jerry Larsen, 70, Stickney, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 12, 10:30 am, at the United Methodist Church in Stickney. Burial will be in the Dudley Cemetery, Stickney. Visitation will be from 5-7PM Friday with a Prayer Service at 7:00PM at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Jerry Lee Larsen was born December 6, 1946, in Mitchell, SD, to Andrew and Viola Grace (Barrows) Larsen. He grew up at Stickney and graduated from Stickney High School in 1964. He entered the US Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam in Field Artillery Target Acquisition and Radar.  He farmed at Stickney for forty years until he retired due to ill health. He coached trap shooting in Stickney and Platte. He was a member of the Stickney United Methodist Church, Stickney Gun Club, Life Member of the VFW, Life Member of the DAV, and a fifty year member of the Stickney Legion Post #26.

He is survived by three daughters: Jennifer Weigandt of Sioux Falls, SD; Jill Pring and husband Shannon of Barnum, MN; Andi Fuerst and husband Troy of Johnston, IA; four grandchildren: Rachel and Logan Weigandt; Mason and Landon Fuerst; and one brother, Larry Larsen and wife Jan of Stickney.

He is also survived by special friends Melissa, Kade, and Kara Johnson, Larry Titze, Mike Hettinger, Bob Miller, Beez Howard, Ron Putzier, Tom McEntee, Marlin Sapp, Paul Kemp, Jesse Kaufman, Vern League, Ron Gates, Dr. Doug Holum, Scott Gerlach, Dwight DeBoer, Rich Crater, Craig Moller, Erik Holum, Glen Storm, and Jerry Vanderesch.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Robert Larsen.

Jerry was a happy fun loving guy who was a dedicated servant to trapshooting. Jerry was great chef at the Mitchell gun club steak fry. Rest in peace friend.

To Jerry's family you have my deepest sympathy. I got to know him better the last few years. He lived abt 5 miles east of our place. He made me a beautiful cross out of metal that I will always cherish. Such a pleasant person. He would visit with everyone. May he rest in pease.

Jerry was always an encouragement to our 3 grandchildren shooting trap. Thank you Jerry. He would always talk with my husband wherever we seen him. If he new you ,he would visit. a quality lost in todays world. RIP Mr. Larsen

What a great guy!! enjoyed our phone conversations when Jerry would call Sunset Distributors to order for the gun club.....an occasional visit from him was a great joy with many laughs!! I will miss him greatly!

A real 'FUN' guy!! Shot some targets with Jerry in years past....had a lot of laughs....AND....he always had a SMILE for me and that is how I shall remember him!

I enjoyed talking with him and his storytelling. Grateful for being part of his caregivers. Amazing and interesting man. I will miss him.
