Eleanora Pierson, 101, of Mitchell, died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at New Home Lutheran Church with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at the New Home Lutheran Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Eleanora Ellen (Moquist) Pierson was born on the family farm January 7, 1916 near Mitchell, SD to Victor and Emma (Svenson) Moquist. Eleanora was baptized April 9, 1916 and confirmed April 13, 1930 at New Home Lutheran Church. Eleanora attended 8 years of country school and graduated from Mitchell Senior High School in 1934. The saying in high school about her was "She puts her worries in the bottom of her heart and sits on the lid and smiles."
Eleanora married George Milo Pierson April 17, 1938 on the family farm. The couple lived in Mitchell until 1945, when they moved to a farm in Lisbon Township. Together they bought the home place, The Grand Divide, in 1955. They moved back into Mitchell October 2, 1976.
Her favorite Bible verses were “Be still and know that I am God" found in Psalm 46 verse 10 “Love never fails" and the "121st Psalm”. Her favorite songs include, “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “The Borning Cry”.
She is survived by her children Barbara (Dick) Graff, Sioux Falls, Sharon (Dennis) Koehntopp, Blaine, MN, and Doug (Jill) Pierson, Yale, SD; 10 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband George on October 25, 1980, and parents, Emma and Victor Moquist.
