Englebert John Puetz was born August 18, 1931 in Ethan, SD to William and Mary (Grohs) Puetz. He attended school in Ethan, graduating from Ethan High School in 1950. During high school, Bert was active in Boys State, was All State in basketball, football and track, played American Legion baseball and was crowned Homecoming King.
Englebert served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from February 1952 until honorably discharged as Corporal in February 1954. He then completed a two year post military training. At a dance, he met the love of his life, Dolores Ann Hohn and on September 14, 1954, they were married in Dimock, SD. Bert was involved with construction and farming activities throughout his working career. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed cooking, canning, fishing, dancing and playing cards. Englebert was a loving and extremely dedicated husband, father, grandfather and played an active role in the caring of his entire family.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends throughout his entire life. He was a merciful and compassionate man with strong faith. We will always remember his contagious smile and infectious humor that has left a lasting impression on all that knew or ever met him.
Englebert was a long time member of Holy Family Catholic Church and lifetime member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dolores, 13 children: Maynard (Lillian) Puetz of Mitchell, Alice (Lee) Johnson of Bloomfield, NE, Marcia (Steven) Rennich of Harrisburg, SD, Peggy (Dr. Henry) Donahue of Richmond, VA, Jon (Lori) Puetz, Clear Lake, SD, Lisa (Robert) Norfolk of LeMars, IA, Juliana (Douglas) Janssen of DeSmet, SD, Norma (Russell) Swadener of Omaha, NE, Boyd (Norene) Puetz of Massapequa Park, NY, Helen (Dwight) Kleinsasser of Papillion, NE, Christopher (Dr. Lezlie) Puetz of Hinckley, MN, Dr. Christine (Brian) Burg of Sioux Falls, SD and Dr. Paul (Jenna) Puetz of Marshall, MN, 50 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, one sister, Devonia Oster, one brother, George Puetz both of Mitchell, SD and a sister-in-law, Adeline Puetz of Brookings, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark Puetz, grandson, Jesse Puetz, great grandchild, Sammie Easland, brothers: Harold, Clarence and Clyde, sisters: Genevieve Feterl, Barbara Bowar, Esther Claseman, Berneice Feiner, brothers-in-law: Herb Haupt, Lloyd Grayson, Ronald Feterl, Roland Bowar, Francis Feiner, Anthony Oster, Arnold Claseman, sisters-in-law: Rose Puetz, Josephine Puetz and Mavis Puetz.
Memorials are preferred to John Paul II Catholic School, 1510 W. Elm Ave., Mitchell, SD 57301.

My deepest sympathy to you all. Peggy was my roommate in nursing school at the College of Saint Teresa. We also shared a few car rides home for the weekend. I know how much she loved her family. That comes from parents who love each other and pass on the lesson. His good works will live on. God bless!!

Delores and Family, we are very saddened to hear about the passing of Bert. We are close friends of Boyd and Norene and children. Although I did not have the pleasure of meeting Bert, I could tell what kind of man he was by working with his daughter, Helen. How respected and loved he was and just a very kind father.
