Obituary

George Bollock, Jr. was born on October 12, 1943, in Piedmont, SD to George and Laura Bollock. He grew up on a sheep farm east of Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1961.  On June 5, 1964 he married Frieda Pody. They lived in Rockford, Illinois, where George worked as a machinist until 1976.  On February 20, 1982 he married Marietta Timmermans Denning.  They bought a farm right outside of Mt. Vernon where they raised their family.  In 2012, he began sharing his life with Cookie Chicoine.  She was by his side throughout his battle with cancer and present at the time of his passing.

George worked for many years doing custom bailing and hay grinding.  He got out of the baling business in 1995, but operated the hay grinder until his health deteriorated this winter – a span of more than 37 years. On his farm, George raised sheep and hogs, but also had a collection of hobby pets and birds that he thoroughly enjoyed.  One of his favorite things was making his famous popcorn for his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by five children: Paula Deinert, Sioux Falls; Connie Dyke and husband, Dennis, Colorado Springs, CO, Lee Bollock and wife, Brittani, Dell Rapids, Clint Bollock and wife, Trisha, Winona, MN and Clay Bollock and wife, Jessica, Sioux Falls; three stepchildren: Vonda Broer and husband, Clint, Onawa, Iowa, Eric Denning and wife, Sherri, Mt. Vernon, Ward Denning and wife, Tammie, Lennox; his special friend, Cookie Chicoine; 22 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his two beloved dogs, Max and Mojo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marietta (Timmermans) Bollock, his parents, and three brothers, Ronnie, Lloyd and Donald “Glen”.

George was a childhood and friend of mine. I remember when he got his drivers license, he picked me up and we ended up over by Puckwana. Thanks for the memories dear friend. God Bless the family at this sad time. Try to celebrate his life and the love he had for each of you.

I worked for George running the grinder since November of 2016, I could always count on him telling me "how to do the grinding" his smile and always giving me a hard time. George was more than a great boss he was also a great friend that I will miss dearly.

George was a loyal and considerate custom hay grinder. You could always depend on him to get hay ground before a storm if needed. He had consideration for my wife also, coming back a 2nd day in a row so not to get hay dust on our house. Always in a hurry, but with a smile, thank-you and rest in peace.
