Michele Bittner grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Notre Dame High School. She attended Presentation College, Northern State College and received her Masters Degree from the University of South Dakota.
Michele taught school in Watertown, SD for several years and also taught at the University of South Dakota as a graduate assistant. She was employed in retail sales in San Francisco and Mitchell, was a staff member of the National College of Business in Rapid City and taught at Dakota Weleyan University for a short time. She has been actively involved in funeral service full time for over 25 years.
Michele is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, served on the Mitchell Charitable Foundation Board, the Women’s Health Board, the Mitchell Area Safehouse Board and the Women’s Interagency Network. For more than twenty years she volunteered with the American Red Cross in the area of Service to Military Families. She has written grants that have benefited local non-profit organizations and was a participating author of the bi-centennial book on Mitchell. Currently, she is serving on the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce Regional Marketing Committee and the Calvary Cemetery Board. She is a member of P.E.O., Beta Sigma Phi, Sedici Art Study Club and a book club. Michele continues to volunteer for educational causes and fund raising for local charities. The Mitchell Garden Club has recognized the family for their gardening efforts at the funeral chapel and their personal residence several times.
Special interests include family, gardening, biking, reading, art study and most recently learning to knit. She and her husband George have a son Brett who resides in Brookings and had a daughter, Bridget who died at birth. She is the daughter of the late Ray and Betty Roby of Mitchell and the late Jean Roby.
